The African Studies Program of the University of Wisconsin, in
collaboration with the Wisconsin Film Festival, is bringing  almost
twenty African films to be shown in local theaters March 27-30. In
addition, the African Studies Program is organizing a symposium,
"Contemporary African Cinema: New Frontiers, New Directions," on March
28, 8:30-4:00, featuring three filmmakers, including Tunisian Moufida
Tlatli and Malian Manthia Diawara, and scholars of African cinema. Beti
Ellerson of Howard University will show her film, _Sisters of the
Screen_ during the symposium. The symposium is free and open to the
public. For more information on the Wisconsin Film Festival see
