the West African country of Burkina Faso in developing a bilingual education

"Among the many activities of OSEO, one project occupies a particular place: the
installation of bilingual education in Burkina Faso, a Sahelian country and one
of poorest of Africa. Sixty languages are spoken there, whereas the official
language is French. Public schools still function according to the French
school system. It appears ineffective, expensive, discriminatory and badly
adapted to the local needs. The government has understood that different models
had to be found urgently. It is within this framework that the OSEO
collaborated with its local partners to test and develop a model of 'bilingual
education' capable of replacing the current system.
