A very short reply.

I have no idea why the case-sensitivity. Ah. Well, one encounters the distinction in Art with a Capital A vs. just art. The lower-case art is what you buy at street fairs and shopping malls. It looks pretty and you hang it on your wall. Whereas Art is Michelangelo and Picasso. It's complicated. I usually avoid abstract AGI discussions because I rarely if ever get anything out of them. I usually prefer something immediate that can be brought into existence. i.e. by writing code (or equations) that actually "do something". Reality is a harsh teacher. In my mind, I can juggle ten balls while swimming the Atlantic Ocean. In reality, this is not possible. Most discussions about AGI seem to be debates between people who want to juggle ten balls at once, underwater, while swimming across the Atlantic, while others insist that you should first become a dolphin, because dolphins can do that. Obviously. My gut instinct is to scream out "take some effing swimming lessons, already!" or "who wants to help me build a submarine?" Cause actually, submarines are highly non-trivial, but with some effort, they can be built. Of course, building submarines is really kind of boring, compared to actually being a dolphin. Until the day that you actually have one, and it works. I love Art, and I love people who want to be dolphins. I wish I could surf quantum foam at the edge of an event horizon. But harsh reality murmurs in my ear and says "go build a submarine". So that's what I do. -- Linas -- cassette tapes - analog TV - film cameras - you ------------------------------------------ Artificial General Intelligence List: AGI Permalink: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/Tcc0e554e7141c02f-Me950a8203b823efb48d0234c Delivery options: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/subscription
