I find it interesting that philosophers find both quantum mechanics and
consciousness mysterious for opposite reasons, and therefore they must be
related. But physicists find neither to be mysterious, again for opposite
reasons.

What I don't find interesting are papers that lack an experimental results
section.

But let me offer a bit of physics philosophy.

The brain is a million times more energy efficient than computers because
signals travel a million times slower by moving neurotransmitter molecules
that are a million times heavier than electrons. The power savings comes
from E = 1/2 mv^2.

The feelings that we are conscious and have free will come from positive
reinforcement of our perceptions, thoughts, and actions. The reason we find
them so hard to define in an objective and testable sense is that they
don't really exist. Our beliefs exist because they increase our
reproductive fitness by making us fear death.

The author concludes, based on nothing more than speculation, that AI is
not possible on deterministic hardware. But Shannon proved that errors can
be reduced to arbitrarily low rates over noisy channels. Evolution figured
out how to use error correction during DNA replication to reduce copying
error rates from 10^-2 to 10^-9 while using 1/1000 as much energy per bit
operation as the brain.
