I'm with you there Jim, unlike some researchers I don't pigeonhole 
"compression" into crisp/restrictive functional mechanisms. Competing for the 
best data compressor is one goal. Utilizing malleable compression concepts in 
relation to AGI theory and engineering is another. I do accept that some 
researchers strongly believe their work regarding optimal compression is 
highest priority, which is fine we can all coexist since it's all related...
