*Google DeepMind hasn't funded the Hutter Prize because it*'s looking for 
short-term wins, it's looking for long-term wins. This is an interesting way of 
looking at how the fund will work: the winners are going to have the most 
significant impact for the next 10 years, and DeepMind doesn't really care 
about those prizes. In fact, you can argue that even if you're not one of the 
winners, DeepMind is a bit more invested in you being able to carry out this 
particular research - it's investing in a long-term process, not just a 
short-term prize.

This is the way DeepMind has always been, at least in the history
