*Google DeepMind hasn't funded the Hutter Prize because it* has any desire to get into the game of programming Go - but just because it doesn't want to get into the game doesn't mean that it isn't still playing it.
Go is a game where players compete in a series of games against each other, the outcome of which is determined by how well each player plays. Go is very simple to understand and learn - it can be played with just a wooden board and a few stones - but at the same time it's insanely complex, and no one's really sure how it works, which is perhaps a big reason for its popularity.
