The problem is that the dictionary definitions that everyone use work perfectly well for humans but don't apply to machines. We can extend the definitions any way we want without any impact on the engineering problem of automating human labor. When I develop a language model, I measure how well it predicts text. A good predictor appears to understand it. If it is good enough to pass the Turing test then it would appear to consciously think. It doesn't matter to me what definition you use to classify the algorithm. ------------------------------------------ Artificial General Intelligence List: AGI Permalink: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/T2ee04a3eb9a964b5-Mb4a1066db09c5412a1a747a8 Delivery options: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/subscription
