THIS is how AGI will kill us. Not by going FOOM or gray goo. But by
dividing us. When AI surpasses human intelligence and can give us
everything we want, we will prefer its company to humans. You will die
alone, and nobody will care because nobody will know. Everyone else will be
living with their sexbots and virtual world home entertainment/security
systems that can see and understand everything you do or want. Public
places will close because it will be cheaper, faster, and safer to deliver
everything including meals by self driving carts.

Already this is happening.
- About 30% of the world population lives alone, doubling in a generation.
- The fertility rate has dropped below 2 children per woman in all
developed countries and is falling rapidly everywhere including Africa.
- In the US, 3% of deaths are drug overdoses (mostly fentanyl) and doubling
every 6 years.
- 30% of US high school students have had sex, down from 50% in 1990. 25%
identify as not heterosexual, up from 11% in 6 years.
- Japan and South Korea, which have the lowest fertility rates in the
world, have an epidemic of young people who refuse to leave their rooms or
engage with people.

The alignment problem is not aligning AI goals to humans. It's aligning
human goals to avoid extinction in a world of abundance. All goal directed
agents, whether human or computer, are finite state machines with a state
of maximum utility. In that state, any thought or perception would be
unpleasant because it would result in a different state. That is what you
want, but you won't realize it until you get there. If you wonder why so
many celebrities who have everything die young from drugs, it's because
getting what you want doesn't make you happy.

We aren't there yet, but close. LLMs pass the Turing test, but are AI, not
AGI. It will take 25 years at the rate of Moore's law doubling every 1.5
years to bring the cost of AI generated movies down from $1 million to $10.
Nanotechnology competitive with biology will take 60 years to catch up with
the 10^37 bits of DNA and 10^31 transcription operations per second
capacity of the biosphere.
