Physicists came up with string theory in an attempt to unify quantum mechanics and general relativity into a single theory. The idea is that everything is made of tiny Planck scale (10^-33 m) vibrating strings in 10 or 11 dimensions. It has been criticized that it does not make any testable predictions, that the theory has 10^500 variants, and that it distracts from other theories like loop quantum gravity. Physicists like it because the math is elegant.
I don't know which theory is right, if any, or if it matters. Quantum mechanics and relativity are both useful approximations of this unknown theory at any scale that matters. I prefer the even more elegant multiverse theory which says all possible universes exist and we necessarily observe one where intelligent life is possible. I seriously doubt Weinstein's claim that string theory is to distract physicists from investigating government secret UFO antigravity technology. But his video did get 832K views and 11K likes. Gemini estimates that only a few hundred to a couple of thousand people actually understand string theory. (I am not one of them). So there's that. -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] On Fri, Oct 16, 2026, 6:40 AM John Rose via AGI <[email protected]> wrote: > Weinstein also believes that string theory was setup as an intentional > misdirection to keep physicists distracted and not discover technologies > that might affect national security.
