Lol Ben that was hillarious!!! *5 stars*
The sarcasm was overflowing.
Mike,
In terms of shape recognition, let us analyze what algorithms the human
body uses.
In "The Singularity is Near" it is mentioned how the human brain makes an
image by overlaying a large amount of filters. Similar in some sense to
what you may call "patch works".
For instance, some filters are for finding edges of objects, some filters
for the plain surfaces, others for sharp contrast, etc.
When they are amalgamated they become "objects" and then the temporal lobe
assigns meaning to them based on what symbols they approximate i.e. cat,
language etc.
Yes in terms of "patchworks" In GI-OS HSPL, there is planned support for
having multiple functions for doing the same thing, to be fault tolerant,

And in terms of AGI's not understanding language,
I think you may have overlooked my project.
Have you seen it?
It already supports case grammar,
and a variety of functions.

In terms of a visual alphabet,
of basic shapes, that's interesting idea.
I've added it at 0.6.9 object recognition, visual and audial alphabets,
to the GI-OS roadmap http://gi-os.me/src/asm/sysh/roadmap.txt
