Meta-tagging sounds like a v.g. & v.obvious idea. Are there any examples of
it in action? Maybe I missed something on those links...

Just musing a bit...
Repeatedly there have been requests for this list to be replaced by a
forum. Repeatedly AGI forum sites have been created and not used...
I've looked previously for an email/forum combination, and the two
closest things I've found are Google Groups, and
http://groupserver.org/downloads
An example built using the GroupServer software is
http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/
One can host a list on
http://onlinegroups.net/
but for a list of this size, it would cost too much ($128/month).
On the other hand, one can install the GroupServer software oneself...
but I don't have time to mess with that...
An advantage of GroupServer is that it's customizable, so an
enterprising coder could add useful features...
According to my thinking, what would be really useful for a list like
this one, would be GroupServer plus a couple extra features:
1)
The ability, through the Web UI, for a poster or site administrator to
attach a META tag to a post
2)
The ability to view all threads or posts with a given META tag
I'm aware that services like Twine have provided this and more, but I
think the reason they didn't catch on is that people are habituated to
dealing with their email, not to logging into some special
messaging/forum site.... So what's needed IMO is something that can
be used just like a good old email list, but can also support labeling
(META tagging) and search based on these labels. A recommended list
of labels could then be supplied on a wiki page.
I wonder if anyone on this site has the combination of technical
ability, time and inclination to create something like this? I
suspect it would be useful beyond the AGI list...
