Yes exactly - this like so much science info is next to incomprehensible.
They need to explain how we get from the wrinkly stuff to this:

photographing and at what magnification and how? Can anyone throw some
light here?

It is not clear, though, what exactly those cables represent. Single axons?
Cables made of millions of axons? How do they connect to the neurons? How
many of those cables are shown in the pictures?
