If there were some sort of visible path between open source and income, then I would be right there with you putting my work out on open source. I don't know of any others who have had your good "luck". Why did you write your code? Did you see any future money when you wrote your code? Are there many others who have done the same? I could love compression, but who loves advertising - which is what my patent is really about? DrEliza was fun to build with my kids, but who would want to build a better one if there wasn't good money in it? You seem to have fallen into something wonderful - like running across a raging river and having the blind luck to step on stones with every step that were just below the surface. IMHO what you now need to do is to "reverse engineer" your path and explain it to the rest of us, so that we can do the same.
