So with that in mind, how about joining forces with OpenCog? ;) Linux shows that an open source initiative can compete with, and in some ways overtake, well-funded competing corporate initiatives. Windows was better funded than Linux from the start, yet Linux is now the OS of supercomputers and the Internet, and BSD (underlying OSX, similar to Linux) and Linux are gradually penetrating the consumer PC market as well... Google's initiative in AGI is admirable and exciting. They are smart people doing great stuff. But plenty of examples in the history of tech show that $$ doesn't always bring victory.... This new burst of funding for AGI-ish stuff is good news for anyone seeking $$ for AGI projects, I would think. It demonstrates that some of the commercial Powers That Be now see proto-AGI work as commercially valuable. Times are changing. -- Ben $400 million is "momentum". > > The only thing that will make them falter, is if they have the wrong > assumptions. > But with that much cash, they have plenty of room for mistakes. > > ~PM > > ------------------------------ > Date: Mon, 27 Jan 2014 10:30:36 +0800 > Subject: [agi] Fwd: Google Alert - artificial intelligence > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > > > > Wow, Google is really trying to consolidate & expand their position in AI > & robotics... > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: *Google Alerts* <[email protected]> > Date: Mon, Jan 27, 2014 at 10:12 AM > Subject: Google Alert - artificial intelligence > To: [email protected] > > > [image: Google] > <http://www.google.com/alerts?source=alertsmail&hl=en&gl=US&msgid=MTQxMTc1NTkwMjE1NjkzMjMxNjE&s=AB2Xq4jLHt8h99pq9CZKGP9JbALjEsdjjAFrJo0> > artificial > intelligence > Daily update ⋅ January 27, 2014 > NEWS > The Verge > > <https://www.google.com/url?q=http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/26/5348640/google-deepmind-acquisition-robotics-ai&ct=ga&cd=MTQxMTc1NTkwMjE1NjkzMjMxNjE&cad=CAEYAA&usg=AFQjCNE3DuiVPQoN64vkHHyQuhQTGjVJ-A> > Google Acquires *Artificial Intelligence* Startup DeepMind For > $400M<https://www.google.com/url?q=http://techcrunch.com/2014/01/26/google-deepmind/&ct=ga&cd=MTQxMTc1NTkwMjE1NjkzMjMxNjE&cad=CAEYAA&usg=AFQjCNF1mmSMDLqLqwpFgZpI0AFOTgJA7Q> > TechCrunch - Google will pay $400 million to buy London-based *artificial > intelligence* company DeepMind.
