I agree there would be better uses of $$ than funding MIRI or FHI. On the
other hand, there are many many less productive uses of $$ in the world
today, as well

The more these organisations are funded, the harder it
will be for others to displace them from their niche.
The FHI it is possible to put up with, but I am less tolerant
of MIRI. Basically, I think that a lot of other possible
organisations could have done a much better job than
they have done with the Thiel millions. Screaming to
everyone to help them save the world does not look
like an especially positive contribution to me.
