"Learning maths" is a general intention which decomposes to many lower level
intentions. So suppose your first sub-intention was to obtain a "maths" book.
Now working on that goal, would you abandon your first and ultimately the entire
intention of "learning maths" after three consecutive failures in the intention
of obtaining the book?
Would a baby (infant or toddler)?
Should an AGI?
Very curious question.

If everything is constant, and for a simple task I would suggest 3 tries before
giving up or reviewing the process. Three is a ballpark off the top of my head
number that is often used in retry attempts.
The thing is, many if not most tasks have a skill level on a level of mastery
so it would be hard to map the probability of the task being achieved. One of
my tasks is to "learn maths", and have been trying for a couple of years now -
I haven't failed as I understand it takes time.

How many solutions should we attempt before throwing in the towel?

How many tries should you, a child, or an AGI give to an intention before
getting frustrated and giving up?
Given that one could choose to focus on an intention or ignore it, at what
point does failure on an intention turn the focus to avoidance, and ultimately
abandonment of the intention?
And yes I know it depends on what else is going on, so suppose context is held
constant andwe were only focusing on one intention of many in our agenda
(intention set).
Kindly advise.
