Non-human animals don't suffer from ego and fears ... they are not "intelligent/stupid" enough to identify with their bodies and roles and their inner retarded monologue (intellect ought to be a tool we utilize ... it is not supposed to dictate our existence) ... they just exist "in the now" (what Jesus and Budda and a million contemporary authors tell us to do) ... their real nature is not covered with layers of ego and belief systems.

Our task is to develop from pre-egoic to post-egoic. A few 1000 years ago we developed self-awareness but we also started identifying with our bodies. We now need to transcend said identification so we become self-aware but no longer identified with our temporary embodiment. The core of all religions is just about that. Thousands of contemporary books out there are telling you the very same thing ... you can literally spend weeks listening to talks by Alan Watts for example.

Non-human animals demonstrate kinds of ethical behavior, which implies that ethics is to no small extent an instinct.
