Well hey, if you guys ever want to seriously collaborate with an AGI team,
let me know ;)

The ideal situation in which to prototype "AGI-based chat" would be one in
which most of the chat referred to some fairly specific nonlinguistic
domain.  (Say, financial data, biological data, computer components,
weather, whatever.)  Then the iniitial AGI contribution would be to improve
conversation quality via incorporating understanding obtained by relating
linguistic constructs to observed or supplied facts about the nonlinguistic
domain in question.

I thought about this a while ago in the context of eCRM chat.  If customers
are chatting with customer care bots about computer hardware, then infusing
the bots with a robust knowledge of computer hardware is obviously helpful.
This can be done in a narrow-AI way, but, using the knowledge of computer
hardware to improve linguistic generation/production gets into some heavy
"integrative AI" and pushes toward AGI...
