Thanks Bill for the encouragement. By the way I
purchased and enjoyed your book "Super-intelligent
Machines".

What I have in mind is an AI that understands the
justification for each of it's actions, whether
self-initiated or performed to directly fulfil a
user's request. I want the system to obey the law of
the country in which it operates and the policies of
the communities to which the user belongs. Such a
distributed AI can be governed in a hierarchical
control structure, i.e. along the lines proposed by
James Albus. I wonder if the open source software
license could have conditions that ensure that central
control is effective. Diversity would occur as the AI
learns how to benefit each particular user and shares
generalizations of these friendly activities with like
users everywhere.

Cheers.
