I think you just need a few more bits of knowledge: P(sex | cybersex) = high P(STD | sex) = high P(STD | !contact) = 0 P(contact | cybersex) = 0 The 0-values (0 strength, extremely high confidence), would outweigh the problematic logic chain, and would generate a conclusion that cybersex does not lead to STDs with high confidence. Both conclusions are valid, but the negative correlation between STD and cybersex would have higher confidence than the positive one.
