Some of those laws are sensible (such as anti-counterfeit); others are
holdovers from ages ago that nobody could be bothered to repeal.
(There's an often-repeated rumour that putting a stamp on an envelope
upside-down is punishable by death because it's technically treason, but
I'm not sure whether it's true or just an urban legend.)
