I understand the UK laws, I just think that they're a pain and a
hindrance to what we're trying to do here.

Like most laws, they are there for a good reason, but the people that made them could never have anticipated the rise of the technology that they now govern.

The reason that I said we shouldn't discuss player names on here is because I was concerned that if someone's name was disclosed then it could be linked to their email address, which as far as I can see could identify them. The law says that AGRIP is not allowed to store information that could be linked to individuals without being registered to do so. This is so that the authorities can check I'm not giving your details away in a very dodgy fashion, which is both a very good idea (think of your bank details, or medical records!) but does cost money.

If we charged for AudioQuake subscriptions (as all over AG vendors do) we'd easily be able to afford to do this and there'd be no problem at all. This probably happens whenever you buy any other accessible game, but because it's behind the scenes, it's not apparent. I'm not sure if I would get taken to court by someone who didn't appreciate their player name and email address being handed out, but I really don't want to risk it, so unfortunately have had to keep these bits of info off the list.

Anyway, I think that the idea of setting up a separate forum to discuss only player/game-related stuff is a good idea, as this list is mainly for support and development.

I've received word that Sebby is to be online soon. Though I'm not sure how long ``soon'' is :-S. I'll keep you posted. I am really sorry for the wait; I wanted to have things handed over to you much before now. It is very stressful being in this position of no-man's-land, but I'm doing the best I can to keep things moving.

bye just now,

Matthew
