If you buy one of those reconditioning chargers I mentioned previously, the battery can probably be salvaged. But no guarantees about that. What I DO KNOW is that if you use one of those reconditioners on a battery that is going to be stored, it will preserve the battery. They are also good for revitalizing batteries that have been abused (e.g., the lights left on until the battery is drained... Not that any of us have ever done that :P). I probably should mention that I have no interest in any companies mentioned. Just a satisfied customer. > Also, get all the gas out.
