My money is still on the ignition switch. The solenoid can certainly cause the 'starter won't stop turning' problem, but it has nothing to do with the engine refusing to run. The ignition switch can cause both.
Could also be the dual relay.. Keep us posted! bs ________________________________ From: Ralph Moorhouse <[email protected]> To: Will Owen <[email protected]> Cc: alfa <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, September 21, 2009 1:47:26 PM Subject: [alfa] Re: strange Milano behavior All: First - thanks for all advice. Ignition switch, double relay & starter solenoid were 'key' concerns. I had our local mechanic come over to check out the situation. Battery good, turn on key, starter spins until disconnected at battery - exactly what I experienced. So I left Mike to do his magic while I got back to work. So it being an Alfa, as soon as I get out of sight, it starts right up!!! We are not a 100% sure why, other than repeated start attempts may have removed surface rust(?) on solenoid. Probably not ignition switch since it doesn't see high voltage (has relay before starter). I think Replacing solenoid is planned after I get it inspected (several months overdue). Again thanks for advice - no clear resolution BUT it starts & runs!!!!!
