Sure, it's not right, but if it's been hotwired it came to us this way (not in 'race car' form), and there is no obvious sign of jumpers bypassing things.

On my car, the pump runs when the starter is energized, and when the ignition is on and the flap of the airflow meter is opened. It never runs when the engine is stopped and the key is simply turned to the "on" position. Based on Tess' description, it sounds to me like her pump is running with the starter energized, and then stopping when she releases the key. I don't have a Spider wiring diagram here, but it might be productive to check and see if the pump is powered by two separate, fused circuits; two separate switching circuits to the relay (one from the starter switch, one from the ECU); and how the fuel pump inertial switch is wired in (it could be tripped). I've heard many times that the Spider doesn't use the massflow-based switch to turn on the pump, and instead uses the flywheel sensors.
