nieghbor of mine came to me last week as his 88' volvo lost its spark.it had a
bosch electric setup and the distributor was stamped 84'.checked the
coil.checked the outside modual.they were ok.so the problem had to be the hall
pickup on the dist.checked that and there i found the dogs grave.went looking
for a dist or pickup availabil.no dice.i found an 83' dist. in a junk yard
which had points.i put in new points and cap and rotor and the little round
thing, works great now.so i'm saying get a bosch old type dist. or marelli.and
drive into the sunset.

The ignition system on the '72 Spider we bought a year ago has failed. When
I first checked the car before buying, I wondered why anyone would replace
the easily-maintained and reliable non-electronic Bosch system with an
electronic one. My opinion is that with electronics it's not a question of
IF it will fail but rather WHEN it will fail.

Ok, so can anyone help with information about which part of the Marelli
system is the most prone to failure and any way of fixing it? Understand
that I know zilch about electronics so will have to get someone to fire up
the cauldron and create the potion that might help... :-).
