I don't see mileage as poor as that. I have seen poor mileage when the thermostat is stuck open and the ECU thinks the engine is always cold and therefore stuffs extra fuel into it. Maybe a not-quite-broken coolant sensor, or failing wiring, could do something similar. Another good option is leaks in the fuel line(s). I have seen reports of leaking in the rubber junctions at the base of the passenger side firewall. I've seen fuel leaking at the engine rail connection at the top, too, but that generally comes with a fuel smell in the cabin. A leak at the fuel filter (under-car) would similarly destroy mileage. My son's Spider had a leak back there once upon a time. Good luck finding your problem. If your plugs aren't carbon-fouled, it's probably gasoline leaking out onto the ground somehow.
