And another thing....  The throttle switches.  There is a "closed" switch which 
tells the ECU to shut off fuel if the RPM is above a certain value.  If that 
switch never -quite- closes, then you will suffer lower fuel economy because 
the engine keeps burning at an idling rate even when decelerating.  This might 
not be of so much notice in stop and go traffic, as it isn't clear that the 
fuel shut-off conditions would be met, but that is indeed another possible 
reason for impaired fuel economy with these cars, and it's not an S-specific 
issue.  I think the "other" throttle sensor on the S is an input for the 
suspension-control ECU, but I don't have the manual close to me and don't 
clearly remember just what it is that the S-specific throttle switch does.  
That is the one you can see pasted onto the throttle cable wheel mechanism.  
The one for fuel shutoff is buried inside the throttle box.
