Ben, How did you know theft recovery was the cause of the salvage titles, and not structural damage? Is that written on the title?
I am not the original poster of this thread. I just thought I could help by looking into the CA DMV regulations, which are available on the Web. I posted a link earlier. Among triggers of salvage titles, I saw nothing about theft recovery. Cheers, Sonny Sonny - If the title is not branded, then this is not a problem. However, I have seen salvage titles from California on cars that were theft recoveries. Just thought you should be aware of the possibility. Once branded, it will not ever have a completely clean title. I guess that I'd do a CarFax check, just to be safe. As to the crux of your problem, actually bidding and buying.
