No direct experience with the method, yet, understand that the driver's side wheel and strut removal will allow for the transmission to come out with the engine in-place. Removal of the axle shaft is required. Drain transmission oil or it will fall out with the axle shaft removal. Order two quarts of Red Line transaxle oil. Any leakage from the rear main seal, or making a preemptive requires a new main seal.
It would pay to have the spline tool that centers the clutch when installing the pressure plate. There are substitutes for the spline tool, yet it is a common item. Thinking IAP carries the plastic tool. Last clutch, I was busy and a shop do the work for me. So, it has been a while. Have fun with it! -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Granier Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 10:47 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [alfa] 164S Clutch/Pressure Plate Change Yes, with 102K on my '91, it's time for the change, major slippage in all gears so it's not the slave cylinder. Anyone out there done the job themselves? Is it difficult? What are the special tools, and essential tools?
