Hi,

Cow Magnets are alnico magnets that are fed to cows. My understanding they are
used to keep pieces of barb and bailing wire from passing through the cow's
stomachs.

A few years back a company was selling these magnets to install on fuel lines.
The theory was that as fuel went through the magnetic field it would break up
the fuel molecules and the fuel would atomize easier. Giving you more
horsepower and better fuel economy. Some BS like that.

Regards,

Mike

"This wasn't suggested as an issue of theory, but one of practice, and, as
stated, likely to be of marginal benefit. Some of my old motorcycle buddies
from Chicago insist that this helps cold starting some of their vintage bikes
in the dead of winter, for instance. If it helps, it helps, but does it help?
YMMV, but without data, it's just opinion."

Theorizing, Visualizing, Practicing, Modeling, Pontificating, Opinionating ,
etc. You can play with semantics if you wish. If I spent my time indexing
plugs, I too would say I felt or noticed a difference. Whether it be in the
Antarctic or Death Valley. Especially, if I spent the time to index plugs on
a
12 or 16 cylinder engine. If I spent time & money to install cow magnets on
my Vespa, I would tell you I noticed a difference. Whether real or imagined.
If your buddies believe it helps, more power to them. (nice pun?) However, in
my original post I made allowances for antiques. Slightly.

"Of what possible relevance would the type of ignition system be to
preventing
plug wetting? Conversely, if you have too low a voltage across the plug, it
won't matter if this is due to low velocity in a magneto system or low
voltage
in a Kettering type."

Ignition has nothing to due with plug wetting unless it doesn't fire.
