Alan,

Unless the former owner marked the original position with a dab of paint (as
Eric mentions in his L-Jet tutorial), I don't know of any way to determine
what it was.  I marked mine so that I could determine where I was.  There
wer several times where I lost control of the spring and I would have been
hosed if I didn't have that mark.
