I'm no expert, however for the purposes of conversation: 1. Everything is salvageable, it depends how much you have to spend and what 'risks' you are willing to take, 2. The 1600 blocks and engines are becoming quite scarce which makes them that much more 'valuable', 3. The area you are referring to is not subjected to high pressures, 4. I would think the area is salvageable via welding and reworking, 5. I have seen successful sealing of that area using quality sealants, but a pea-sized void is relatively large to fill. I found that the aluminum block was corroded at the no. 4 cylinder where the sealing 0-ring contacts the bevel in the liner sleeve. There is a pit about the size of a pea that breaks the surface continuity of the bevel. So Digest, please tell me: Is this block a boat anchor? Or can it be saved? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. modelle the alfa hobbyist 115,105 g.d. -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected] -- to be removed from alfa, see http://www.digest.net/bin/digest-subs.cgi or email "unsubscribe alfa" to [email protected]
