Hi ! the first time i replaced a headlight in a 164 many years ago, i'd purchased the bulb at a regular parts place, napa i think, couldn't get that ring off, went back in the store & bought a medium sized channel lock sort of tool & after much twisting, wiggling & pulling in the out direction & swearing a lot i got it to come off. it hasn't gotten any easier over the years, just one of the crappy engineering one gets alongside the good engineering on an Alfa ! The ring just kinda sticks itself on, be careful not to break it, don't know if they're available.
