Hi Alan and all,
This has been a recurring problem with my Duetto. I added a relay near
the starter and that helped for a while then the problem started again. I
replaced the solenoid and again that helped only for a while. I recently
replaced the starter with a used one I had on the shelf and installed what I
considered to be the best working solenoid and so far, so good!!
I believe what is happening is that since that solenoid gets it's ground
thru the starter motor, something in the motor is developing higher resistance
when it gets hot causing the solenoid to not get the current flow it needs to
energize. That's just my theory but since they seem to work well cold and
changing the motor seems to have cured my problem - - - -

The solenoid on my 1974 Spider starter sticks and abandons me when
hot---(very frustrating to sit in a parking lot waiting and hoping that
sooner
or later I can get out of there)--- Banging on it with a metal rod often
loosens it up.
Where would I find a reliable replacement? Or is there a fix?
(other than getting a push-start)
Cordially,
Alan Lambert
