Anders I have a rega iii of more than 20 years back long before the days of USB!
The thing is built like a tank - all metal. It has no gears or anything like that. You lift the head with a small hydraulic lift and place it in the beginning of the record. When you come to the end of the record you again have to use the hydraulic lift and move the head by hand. If you want to change the speed 33 to 45 rpm you have to remove that heavy platter and by hand and put it on another pully. But man the sound of that thing is quite something special. I must go and look at a review of the new usb one.
