Thankfully I've never had VLC crash on any platform I've used it on.
I've had iTunes crash recently though.
I just hate the way the iTunes software intrudes and makes decisions on what 
files it will and won't play, puts folders all over your drive without 
permission and so on, a damn Pain in the A to put it bluntly and I would advise 
people - particularly Windows users - not to install the rubbish and leave well 
alone if possible.
Mac users of course don't have a choice as iTunes is part of OS so delete the 
App so it doesn't have a chance to automatically pop up and cause problems when 
you least expect it.

I seldom use Itunes too but it works when i add records to my library.
Last time i used vlc on mac it crashed so i have to see if i can dig it up 
again and try it out.
