Thanks for the comment, ostkamp.

I encounter a behavior different than yours at work (Debian Linux, see below, 
english version) AND at home (Windows XP, OO 2.0, 10 march 2005 version, 
French version).

For me the functionality does not work at all. I can type two (and more) space 
wherever I am in the document, even in the middle of a line full of blank 
spaces.

Maybe is-it "locale"-related? (Just guessing as I don't see anything else in 
common between home and work computer.) Mine is Belgium - French.

Or maybe I'm just missing something in the configuration of the AutoCorrect / 
AutoFormat options? Do I just have to check the "Ignore double spaces" 
and "While Typing" options (see first post) or is there something else to do?
