On a Fedora Core 5 system, installing fonts does not work as described in the
documentation I find. I discovered this using Writer, and have not tried the
other parts of OO yet with the new font I installed.

The spadmin program tries to install them in ~/.openoffice.org2.0/user/fonts and
reports that zero fonts were installed, even though it copies the .ttf file
there.

The font shows up in the menu list but it does not render, until you copy the
file to /usr/share/fonts/truetype

Note that this directory is not even in my fontpath!

]$ /usr/sbin/chkfontpath
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/Type1
/usr/share/fonts/default/Type1

/usr/share/fonts/japanese/misc:unscaled
/usr/share/fonts/japanese/misc
/usr/share/fonts/japanese/TrueType
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi:unscaled
/usr/share/X11/fonts/misc
/usr/share/X11/fonts/75dpi
/usr/share/X11/fonts/100dpi

So, it is working, but by "magic." Either the spadmin program needs to be
improved, or the instructions cleared up, to help new users take advantage of
the multitude of fonts available.
