AT LAST!
I tried on Win XP with English (UK) and I could reproduce quite what you
describe. In this locale:
- load bugdoc
- double-click on the field
- choose "Additional format..."
- choose "31. December 1999"
- delete the dot in the format code field
- ok
(-> the dialog shows accordingly "31 December 1999")
- ok
-> the format didn't change and is still "June 19, 2008"
@ER: is that yours? Only reproducible with English (UK) as locale.
