IMPORTANT:
Meanwhile I succeeded to report the OpenOffice/StarOffice bug at the StarOffice
Support center, and I was contacted immediately by phone:

The bug that I have reported here is indeed a known problem, and until now it
had been deemed a problem that the developers of the OpenOffice (i.e.
StarOffice) spellchecker won't be able to solve. But now there will be a new
inquiry: tomorrow I will be told, if the bug can be patched.

The bug occurs, when you got to format a part of a text (e.g. the main part) in
English language, AND additionally certain other parts in another language (in
this case it was German): That's an important feature for our company, as we
often need to cite foreign business partners, and – of course – these are,
citations in other languages. So the bug occurs with mixed language texts. With
such mixed language texts the OpenOffice spellchecker doesn't work: then it will
always tell you (wrongly), that everything is ok.

So tomorrow I can tell you, IF the developers are able to solve the problem. If
they are, then I will also tell you the expected date – so in this case you will
know when the patch will be available.

It's an important question! If the developers of the spellchecker won't be able
to solve that problem, then no one who has to edit mixed-language texts (texts
with foreign language citations) would be able to use the last version of
OpenOffice (neither would they be able to use the following versions of
OpenOffice). In this case they would have to switch to another Office Software.
But if they are able to solve the problem, we can go on with OpenOffice
(StarOffice). So I do hope that the problem will be solved.

It really sounded VERY strange to me, that such a problem had been deemed
unsolvable for OpenOffice developers.... !

Will there be a fix? Anyway – in both cases the OpenOffice users should be
briefed globally!! As I have noticed today, other people had described the same
problem in the OpenOffice discussion forum. They should know what's up.
