I was using multiple books published several years apart. The Latin taxonomy had changed in many cases, but the books didn't "do" synonyms. So the Maori names were the best clue to verifying that "this" and "that" were indeed the same. By the way, let's replace "the common" with "the English" in your statement! After all, which is more "common", the Maori or the English?
