I have grown Welwitschia from seed and Jim McKenney's is one I started. A question was asked as to how difficult it is to cultivate? They can be difficult to get through the first year as some seed have an endemic fungus that can kill the seedling. It helps if you treat the seed with a fungicide before planting it. Once you get them through the first year they become pretty easy as long as you give them plenty of sunshine and keep them warm. I lost all of my Welwitschias two winters ago when my greenhouse got down to 20 degrees F.
If you get a chance to visit Huntington Botanical Gardens, in Pasadena California, make certain the you see their Welwitschias as they are huge. They are grown in the ground inside a greenhouse and the free root run allows them to grow much larger than ones grown in pots.
