At the Nursery I work to, Pesticides are not something to live without, because even with just the good bugs remaining...customers freak out...so routine spraying is a way of life. However, neither the owners nor I care to be using anything thats overly toxic...this can be judged by the REI= ReEntry Interval...0-4 hours and minimal protections , such as shirt, pants, socks and shoes is the safest...4 REI with Face mask, eye protection, shirt,shoes,socks,pants is next...12 REI is the next step with oSHA approved Respirator and almost full haz mat...these are usually some of the Bombs...anything stronger than that...we don't use
The form of Neem we use is a product called Azatin, as some companies do NOT USE the correct chemicals found in Neem oil for it to be worth the price. Azatin is concentraded and can be Tank mixed with certain other chemicals...such as Ultrafine oil, but call the company first. We also use Ultrafine oil, which is a low 4 REI, just make sure you wear old clothes and rubber gloves, wash hands afterwards. Botanigard is a great product, and depending upon the pest, you have to either use the powder form or the liquid. Beneficial friendly, 4 REI and organic approved in the Powder form...this stuff works great...a bottle of liquid is $55 These are the three top products that I use, but the KEY is to use a certain product THREE times consecutively, 1X WEEKLY then switch to another product for THREE WEEKS 1X WEEKLY. You should never use any product repeatedly without swithcing chemicals due to possiblity of resistance in the pest.
