Bringing plants across the border can become pricey by the time you add in phytosanitary certificates ($45 from Mesa for plants, luckily seeds need no phyto) and cites ($12 for Mesa; I think only simpsonii is not on the cites list, which applies to seeds also).. of course the more you order, the less it costs per plant , but the paperwork easily doubles or more the cost of a small order. However, I do appreciate that Mesa is even willing to ship abroad, many U.S. growers will not, or have high minimum orders to make all that paperwork worthwhile. We are getting some up and down temperatures now, as well-- yesterday morning was somewhere around -38C/-36F, this morning at least -30C and tomorrow daytime will be +4C/+39F! P. knowltonii is the easiest. If you're just trying P. simpsonii, Mesa Garden sells plants for quite low prices. If I figure my time is worth, say, $1 US a month, it still works out to my advantage to buy plants.
