First of all, thank you so much for posting your personal correspondence: I clicked on Kees' website and actually looked through all nearly 3000 images. Boy, was I impressed! I immediately signed up to be his Facebook Friend, for one thing... I'm sitting on the 11th floor of a lovely Sheraton Suite overlooking downtown Seattle's giant towers (in the direction of Puget Sound): there was obviously a slight dusting of snow, and it is brisk although the horrendous snow conditions talked on TV certainly haven't effected the heart of the city. I just wanted to share about the Northwest Flower Show: I have to say with the exception of Rock Garden shows (especially those wonderful extravaganzas regularly staged by AGS) I find trade shows, garden and home shows, and suchlike akin to hell. I avoid them like the plague and would rather do almost anything. The Philadelphia flower show is an exception. I think the Pacific Northwest flower show may even outshine Philadelphia for two major reasons: the gardens are pretty much on a par, and the trade show is easily as big, but Seattle offers 130 seminars in very comfortable and attractive settings, and best of all the crowds are not excessive. You can get around without feeling crunched. I think the entrance fee is reasonable. I have spent the better part of two days there, and will likely spend another two days there, and I am actually enjoying it. I may need that many days just to get around to all the booths. And the whimsy and delight of most exhibitors is really amazing. I am astonished at the range of plants being sold and the novel ways they sell them. Kelly Dodson and Sue Milliken's Far Reaches Farm nursery has a breathtaking array of Chinese rarities, and Edelweiss Gardens from Portland offers thousands of classic alpines and the best selection of Dierama I have ever seen in one spot. There is a Heather nursery with the most breathtaking display of heathers of all sorts including South African, and on and on and on...And the Northwest chapter has a booth where I have fun checking in to that lively group's activities. I feel very lucky to have been invited to this show, and am glad you have given me an opportunity to talk about it: In future years, I would be strongly tempted to fly up and attend it: quite a statement coming from a trade show hater!
