Oh, I know, I was kidding. I accepted Burr-Brown's offer primarily
because of their reputation for high-quality analog parts in general,
DACs most definitely included. I've long been a fan and now I work
there, which is pretty cool! Also I'm good buddies with the pro audio
marketing manager.

I think the finest-sounding DAC ever made is the PCM1704. It's
unusual in that it is _not_ a delta-sigma part: it's actually a
modified R2R (24 bits laser-trimmed!). These are expensive but
generally give better linearity. SNR ain't everything ..

heh. More like "is assimilated by". :)

Although in reality, this buyout worked out pretty well for us. Most
companies get bought and then mulched. We not only remained intact,
they basically handed us their struggling high-performance analog
division and said "fix it". Which we are trying to do, but it'll take
some work .. :)

Meantime we are still making and designing good parts (at least, as
good as we can make them), and we are trying to house-train TI in the
small matter of customer service. That'll take a _lot_ of work :(

One thing that's good that's been happening is we are sort of
revamping our pro audio stuff. Some _very_ nice parts are on the way ...

hmm. This is a Dallas part. Don't know much about it; I'll ask Mike
what he thinks of it.
