Well, for what it's worth, I've used a total of three sound cards under Alsa and OSS (both the commercial drivers and kernel drivers). With my SoundBlaster Live!, the Alsa drivers are, without a doubt, the best. I also have a EnsoniquePCI (es1371) which performs better under Alsa than OSS. Currently, however, my Hoontech Digital-XG (yamaha-754 chip) seems to be better supported under OSS than Alsa. Both the FM synth and the rear and front channels are supported. Under Alsa, the FM synth is unsupported, and though both the rear and front PCM work, they don't currently work with the OSS emulation. I see this as an area that needs to be worked on before Alsa can become the standard sound system under Linux, unfortunately. The OSS sound system will still have a firm grasp for years to come, so even if the Alsa support for a card is 100%, the OSS emulation needs to be complete as well. Having said that, I'd be more than willing to look into supporting the front and rear PCM with the OSS emulation, but my programming experience with sound drivers, is fairly limited. Can anyone offer suggestions or pointers on this? Adam _______________________________________________ Alsa-devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/alsa-devel
