Since you asked for anything, this might be totally irrelevant.

I've encountered a similar problem with alsaconf 0.4.3b. The problem is
probably because of the renaming of the sound card modules. For example
in my case my sound card was identified in earlier version of alsa-0.9
as snd-card-ymfpci. Now it's just snd-ymfpci. So I think the solution is
to copy over the configuration file created by alsaconf and just rename
all instances of snd-card-[YOUR_CARD] to snd-[YOUR_CARD].

In my system the configuration file is: "/etc/alsa/modutils/0.9". What
you may have in your computer is the configuration file for alsa-0.5:
"/etc/alsa/modutils/0.5". Remember to back-up.
